Red Carpet Rundown

Ahh the Oscars. Love them. Of course I get bored and turn the channel during the more boring awards and the montage of people that have died, but I usually tune in for the big awards, and I always watch the best part, the red carpet! I LOVE seeing what everyone chose to wear, and have a full critique going. This year was no different. This blog might be more interesting for the girls in the fam.
I'll start with my personal fave of the night. Kate Winslet. I LOVE HER! Sort of a two tone dress, assymetrical which is a great look for her, simple but chic jewelry, perfect-for-the-occasion hair. I thought she looked amazing!! She has a fantastic body but looks like she might actually eat a full meal now and then. I love everything she says. Did I mention I love her?? I didn't even see her movie she won for, but I am reading the book. I'll rent it when it comes out.
Next, Natalie Portman. GORGEOUS! She stood out. She was wearing the very bright colored (pink? Purple? bubblegum? you be the judge) strapless dress which I loved the top of. Her hair swept back, perfect. Mainly her face is what took the cake. She has such a gorgeous face. It's sickening, really. No necklace, which was a good choice in my opinion. It let her dress take center stage.
Now on to Sarah Jessica Parker. Wow. "That's a lot of dress" as one commenter said. In case you forgot, she was wearing the strapless dress with a super huge, ballerina style skirt. (I really wish I knew how to add pics to this thing, it would really make my blog more complete) I predict she'll take a lot of crap for this dess, huge risk. Let me just say, I loved it. Very unique, she looked like a princess. Where can you where a dress like this to, if not the Oscars? It was fun and glamorous, an odd mix. She described it as a "barely mint" color. Her hubby Mathew Broderick then said his suit was "barely black". SJP came back with, "No, yours is midnight blue". Only SJP.
Amy Adams. She looked good, but I wasn't a big fan of the dress or the GIGANTIC collar necklace. I thought the necklace took away from her pretty hair & face. Wasn't that into it.
Anne Hathaway. She was wearing the sort of cream colored strapless fishtail dress. So pretty. Very "Oscars". Definitely something I would have worn. Nice updo as well. Classy, elegant, youthful.
Lets talk about Heidi Klum for a minute and her red dress. She is the most ridiculously gorgeous person in the world. She looked so amazing I literally felt ill for a moment. Loved the red, loved the style, the hair, the makeup...but way too much jewelry. A LOT of bangles.
Miley Cyrus. EH. She looked very.... Disney. Sort of this ruffled, giant mermaidish skirt. Lots and lots of beading, probably weighed 100 pounds. That said, she's what, 16? A good choice for a 16 year old. Very youthful. Wouldn't have been my choice, but I like her and I can't WAIT for the Hannah Montana movie, APRIL 10!
Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. Both looked good I thought, but her dress was weird. It's black and tight which looks good on her, but its sort of feathery or tulle-ish, I can't tell but I don't really like it. She says she wanted to look like Audrey Hepburn. Kind of missed that one, Vanessa. Zac always looks pretty, but easy on that slicked seal head.
Beyonce, in her super super super ridiculously tight black and gold strapless number was totally predictable. If I would have had to guess what she would wear, I would have drawn you that exact dress (If I had any artistic ability, which I don't). Wasn't into it.
Diane Lane looked pretty boring. Boring black dress, boring hair, boring makeup. Yawn. Next.
Brangelina. Jeez I'm sick of them. Angie looks fabulous of course. But a little predictable as well. She's pretty, but I'm sick of her and her black dresses. I did like her emerald colored earrings. Brad on the other hand, I am never sick of. He looks amazing as always.
Meryl Streep looked very ladylike and glamorous. Good choice, maybe I would have picked a different color for her.
Jessica Beil. Um, no. Stringy, messy hair. Not cute. Weird dress. No, no, no.
Penelope Cruz. Loved it. The dress was white with a lot of of detail on the skirt. It was vintage, she said it was like 60 or 80 years old or something? I liked that. Tight bodice which looked good on her tiny body. I can never decide if I think she's pretty or not... kind of a small face. Loved her dress though.
Annnddd that's all I can think of at the moment. I'm sure I forgot someone. As for the actual awards... I like Heath and I thought he did great in the movie. Kate is fantastic, can't wait to see hers. Slumdog Millionaire dominated, haven't even seen it. I guess I will. And that's about all the awards I care about.

  1. Mel we are scary we think soo much alike. The red carpet is def my fav too, and have a hard time even sitting through the rest of it except for the big awards. My fav "look" on the night was Natalie Portman. She is just such a stun...sooo elegant. And she was followed closely by Kate Winslet. She is a classic beauty and she is by and large my fav actress anymore. She is fake she is sooo good. I loved her in the movie which while quite boderline (too much nudity) was my pick for best movie. I loved it....I did NOT like Sarah Jessica's Parkers dress on HER. She was too old for the look in my opinon though the dress itself was a stun..AI loved Anne Hathaway and she looked incredible. Meryl Streep is both amaing and looked amazing to me. It's sad she is my age (for me) My other pick would have been Jennifer Aniston. She is a stun and I love her as an actress. Angelina always looks good, but bugs me too much, though I loved her jewelry. I guess that's about it. Slumdog was a good movie, but way to hyped in my opinon. We should have watched this together Mel. And now that I think about it, I guess we did often watch the red carpet together after you were grown up...
